AFMI has been in the forefront of providing relief and rehabilitation in the face of natural and man-made disasters in India. AFMI’s approach in such calamities has been to shorten the relief work to a minimum to avoid building dependency. AFMI instead concentrates on rehabilitation so that victims can stand up on their own feet. AFMI has done extensive work in the aftermath of the Latur earthquake (1993), Gujarat earthquake (2001), Gujarat genocide (2002), Tsunami (2004), and the recurring floods in Assam, Bihar, Gujarat, Maharashtra, and elsewhere. AFMI has also built a state-of-the-art hospital in Baroda and has begun building a hospital in Lucknow. AFMI also runs health clinics across the country.
Internationally, the organization has also helped in the rehabilitation of victims of the Bosnian genocide, and more recently, relief work in the flood-affected areas of Pakistan.
