Guwahati: A total of 122 rank holder students of class X and XII board examinations belonging to the minority communities drawn from 22 states of India received gold, silver and bronze medals at the 23rd Annual International Convention on Education organised by the American Federation of Muslims of Indian Origin (AFMI).
Of these, two gold medals, one silver medal and one bronze medal each was won by the North East’s students at the gala award ceremony that was part of the Convention on the final day on Sunday at the picturesque Kozhikode city in Kerala.

Javed Hameed, Shamim Uddin and Joynal Abedin of Dimapur (Nagaland) were awarded gold, silver, and bronze medals respectively for their outstanding performance in class X board examination while Rajibul Awal, a student of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Barpeta (Assam), son of an army man, bagged the gold medal for his stellar performance in class XII board examination.
The third academic session of the Convention on the topic ‘Empowering Women as Key Change Agents in Modern Trend in World Education’ was moderated by Kamarunnisa Anwar. Siddiqui (Boston USA), Hasina Poonawala (UK), Shabistan Gaffar (chairperson, Committee on Girls Education, NCMEI, Ministry of HRD, government of India), Mazhar Hussain (Hyderabad India) and Prof VU Ameera (Kozhikode) participated in the seminar.
The annual Convention is held in a different city of India every year.
